So here I am

in my hotel room in Riyadh. It really happened. I got here. There were times when I did not think that I would.

A car picked me up at the airport and took me to the hotel. The wrong hotel! Seems there are more than one hotel in this chain.
Lucky for me, as the hotel that I went to first was a long way from my new office. With that sorted I got a car to the correct hotel and checked in.

The room has a microwave, a kettle and a two burner hotplate. No saucepans. So they are on the shopping list for tomorrow.

Today is the day

That I fly to KSA. I never thought I would get to this stage; it has been so long in coming.
The last few days have been a blur. Mary-Kate had her baby and we went it to see them both. He still doesn't have a name.
Packing and re-packing. Weighing to make sure that I am under the limit. Who knows?
It is a long old trip with a six hour layover in Dubai. Unfortunately it is in the middle of the night.
Start the new job on Wednesday.

Packed my bag

pre-flight. I always liked that song (Rocketman by Elton John). Emer and I went to Las Vegas in April and we say him live.
Packing my bag brought it home to me that I would be leaving soon. My thoughts are just whirling around in my head. It makes it hard to concentrate on the work I still have to do here.
The hotel got back to me to say they would send somebody to pick me up at the airport. I *do* so hope that happens.

This is the first entry in my blog. As some of you may know, I am off to Saudi Arabia on Monday (2015.09.07) to start a new job. It is a year's contract which I hope will be extended. This is a big step for Emer and myself. But the boys have grown up and left home, so now is the logical time to do this. I am going to write something every day. At the very least, it will help me to understand this adventure when I look back on it.
